Team Distance Challenge

The Inter-Livery Team Distance Ski Challenge for Snow-Camp was introduced to the Livery Ski Championships in January and it proved very popular. We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible getting involved again this year.  Many Livery Companies have supported youth charity Snow-Camp over the years. The charity was founded in 2003 and received the Freedom of the City at Guildhall in 2013, in a ceremony celebrating excellence in youth work. The charities' Founder, Dan Charlish, and his team did a brilliant job and in 2019 we raised over £14,000 for Snow-Camp

How does the event work?

Teams from each Livery Company sign up in advance to take part. Livery companies can enter as many teams as they like – or have one BIG team..

There is a link below to enter your team and the basic rules are explained there.

Each team will receive bibs and a top of the range GPS tracker and be tasked with covering as great a distance as possible over a 2-hour period on Wednesday the 22rd January.

There will be a briefing at Nyon at 2pm before a ‘Le Mans’ type group start for all teams at 3pm.  The challenge is to ski as great a distance as you can in the time allowed. You can take any route you like and use any strategy to maximise distance - as long as you are on foot, skis or lifts and always stay together as a team!

Here is the small print for those of you already calculating the odds and marginal gains…

  • Teams of 4 or more sign up in advance giving their Livery Company(s) and team members names and emails under a Team Captain. This may be a different person from the Team Captain for the racing events

  • Team members can be guests or friends and don't have to be down as 'Racers' for the other events. As long as at least one person in the team (the Team Captain for this event) is at least loosely associated with the Livery Company they are representing.

  • Teams will collect their GPS tracker from Snow-Camp and TracTrac at Nyon before the start. The event begins at 2pm and ends at 4pm with drinks and revelry afterwards.

  • Ski as many kilometres as you can as a team in the two hour GPS tracked window and get to the finish to hand in your tracker. Trackers set to stop tracking after 2 hours.

  • Top speeds, distance covered, routes taken and live tracking in real time will be available online and live for all teams to view. Live league tables will be produced throughout the event.

  • Teams must arrive at the finish at the Hotel L'Aubergade within 15 minutes of the 2 hours being up - or face penalties! GPS measures both uphill and downhill travel.

  • The whole team must always ski together throughout. No guides allowed!

  • At some point during the challenge the team must film a short video featuring all members of the team in action! This video must be submitted to judges.

  • The winning team will be the team who has travelled the greatest distance in 2 hours at the point the tracker is turned off by HQ.

  • Prizes and trophies for the first, second and third placed teams and top three fundraising teams will be awarded by Snow-Camp at the Awards Evening on Friday. There may be a further prize to take into account the team size.

  • Entry to the Challenge is free but each Company being represented will have a fundraising page set up for them – there is no pressure to fund-raise but of course we are hoping that you will so that we can support Snow-Camp’s fantastic work with young people.
